To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in the early 1930s and follows the story of Jean Louise Finch, commonly known as Scout Finch. Scout lives in small town of Maycomb, Alabama with her brother, father, and her cook. In Maycomb, which is suffering from the Great Depression, Scout and her brother Jem meet Dill, a boy who visits Maycomb every summer. Together, the 3 of them try to solve the mystery of the Radley House which is supposedly haunted. The house is owned by Nathan Radley and the children believe that Nathan’s brother Arthur has been hiding in that house for years. Later in the book, Scout’s father Atticus, who is a lawyer in Maycomb, is put on a case where a black man was accused of raping a white women. Throughout the book, you see progression of Scout, Boo Radley (Arthur Radley), the trial of the black man, and much more.
